Clinical supervision is and essential part of developing a framework of practice. All counsellors work differently – and bring different skills and experience to the profession of supporting the mental health of others. To do this safely and professionally it is important to check our thoughts and strategies, eithical decisions and personal boundaries with an objective professional supervisor regularly.

I’ve been a clinical supervisor for almost four years and trained in the Australian Counselling Association’s RiSE-Up model – described as Relationship-based Integrated Supervision & Education to Unlock Potential. However, some practitioners prefer alternative models and as supervision is intended to ensure personal and professional growth, these can be supported with mutual agreement.
